Artist's Comments

There is a "big fish". A drawing that I made for Digital Artist Award 2009. Unfortunantly, I didn´t achieved a good position, but it was a good motivational for make this piece (nice excuse from a looser, hehehehe)

So, this art its a Jedi´s origins: I´ve tried to capture the battle of Obiwan Kenobi and Darth Vader on Star Wars - Episode IV - A New Hope. The jedis were inspired on the ancient samurais, so I bring that aesthetics to the illustration.

The Kanjis says (right to left):

"Finally we have met. The Circle is now complete. When I left you, I was but the learner. Now, I am the master!"

"Only a master of evil, darth"

I´ve made a really hard word scanning the textures and work on them. I hope you enjoy it!

May the Force be with you!

PS: Very very special thanks (and excuses!!!) to Tatiana Tissa Kawakami [[link] for the greatfull help with the kanjis

oh wow, that's awesome. I like the blending of old samurai block prints and the jedis.
Neato!

thanks!

I´ve tried to put them into a landscape, but an Imperial Destroyer is to dark for this kind of picture. I think that Vader will be invisible in that case.

thanks for the comment ;)

Fighting on a beach? in front of a few trees? or an industrial type looking background? (you know, inside a ship, with beams and metal)
At least a little wider would be nice, so the jedis would look like they have more room. As it is, they looked a bit cramped.

Still neato, and excellent work on Vader's armor.

From that ones that you said, I have only immagined the ship´s interior.

I thought that put them into a beach, for example, would bring the piece away from Star Wars.

But, indeed, I agree that lefting them into an old parchment background was a lack of imagination from me.

Thanks for the comments :). If you have someone from another works, please tell me.

Gah, I love images like this that combine Star Wars and a real culture--it's so grounding, and shows that there's parts of the myth that Star Wars is based on that speak to everyone...all symbolism aside, though, the poses here are awesome and you've replicated the Japanese style really well. Personally, I think the parchment background makes it look more authentic--a starship hall would be difficult to make Japanese, although it'd be gorgeous if done right. I love the sword hilts and the way they match the lightsaber colors. (And the symbols of the Republic and the Sith are on there as well! Fantastic) Vader's helmet is frighteningly skull-like. Why does Obi-Wan have two swords-- didn't Luke have Anakin's at this time?

Wash: Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.
Zoe: We live in a spaceship, dear.
Wash: So?
